Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM)

Reach Every Household in Your Target Area

Every Home, Every Address, Every Time

Every Door Direct Mail® (EDDM®) is a USPS® program provided by ColorPage that allows businesses to send mail pieces (postcards, flyers, menus, brochures) to all residential (and/or business) addresses in specific postal routes—without needing a mailing list. It’s an effective, affordable local marketing tool to get your message in front of households in your target neighborhoods.

Why Use EDDM?

  • No mailing list needed. You don’t need to rent or maintain a list of names and addresses.
  • Affordable postage. EDDM mail is eligible for USPS Marketing Mail rates (flats) and often has discounts.
  • Target by geography. You choose postal routes by zip code, city, or neighborhood, and can filter based on demographics (age, household size, income) using U.S. Census data.
  • High reach. Because every address on selected routes receives your mailpiece, you maximize your local exposure.
  • Simplicity. The USPS provides tools (mapping, routing, online ordering) to guide you through the process.

How EDDM Works — Step-by-Step

Here’s how the process typically works when you partner with us. We can manage all parts of this process, based on your preferences.

  1. ColorPage will help you select target areas.
Use USPS’s EDDM Online Tool (or our mapping expertise) to select postal routes in neighborhoods you want to reach. You can filter routes by residential vs total addresses, and view demographic data.
  2. Design your mailpiece.
You’ll be assigned an experienced ColorPage designer to create postcards, flyers, menus, or brochures that meet USPS “flat” size guidelines (and weight limits). We’ll make sure your message includes a clear offer or call-to-action.
  3. Apply EDDM indicia & mailing details.
    • Mailpieces are addressed generically (“Postal Customer”) instead of individual names.
    • We include the EDDM Retail Indicia in a specific location (above and to the right of the address block).
  4. Bundle & prepare your mailing.
    • ColorPage will bundle your mailpieces in stacks (50–100 pieces each).
    • Each bundle needs a facing slip with route info and piece count.
    • The height of any bundle cannot exceed 6 inches.
  5. Drop-off or ship to Post Office / BMEU.
    • For EDDM Retail: ColorPage brings your bundles to the designated Post Office that serves your selected routes.
    • For distant zones or BMEU campaigns: ColorPage may ship via Priority Mail to the Postmaster of the route. ColorPage includes all required forms (PS Form 3587, instruction letter, sample mailpiece, etc.).
  6. Track, evaluate, and refine.
Once your mailing is out, monitor response (calls, visits, web traffic) and learn what messages, offers, or designs resonated best. ColorPage can use those insights to improve future EDDM campaigns.

EDDM FAQs

EDDM® sizes should meet the following requirements:

Length: Between 10″ and 15″
Height: Between 12″ and 6.125″
Thickness: Between 0.75″ and 0.25”
Corner Radius: Less than or equal to 0.125”

USPS will accept cards with a length or height less than the minimum requirement, but only on one side.

No. EDDM Retail requires a minimum of 200 pieces per ZIP code/day.

For EDDM Retail, no special permit is required. For BMEU-level mailings, you’ll need a bulk mailing permit.

EDDM is designed to reach every address in a selected postal route. If you want to target narrower segments (e.g. “only households with children”), you may need a standard mailing list or alternative USPS tools.

Yes — especially using the BMEU method. For retail-level mailings, ZIP-by-ZIP segmentation is more common.

You must include “Do Not Deliver” addresses on your facing slip, and USPS will honor exclusion requests.
